Santa Lucia
Coffee Estates
Location
A series of mountain chains
runs through Costa Rica from the Nicaraguan border in
the northwest to the Panamanian border in the southeast.
In the center of the ranges is a high-altitude plain,
with coastal lowlands on either side. The capital of
Costa Rica, San Jose, is located on this plain. The
Santa Lucia coffee estates are situated on the eastern
edge of the plain within view of the famous ancient Irazu Volcano.
The coffee estates are a 30 to
45 minute drive southeast from San Jose, in the Canton
of Cartago. They are a half-mile southeast of Paraiso on
the road to the Ujuras Ruins, and are perched on the
edge of a flat mountain jutting out into the beautiful
Orósi Valley. The name "Paraiso" means Paradise in
Spanish.
Because of its climate,
beauty and proximity to San Jose and Costa Rica's major
attractions, the Orósi Valley is a growing development
area. Because they are "hidden away," the coffee
estates
offer the best of both worlds – peace and quiet and yet
an easy drive to Costa Rica's major attractions such as
its magnificent environmental reserves.

Climate
Daytime temperatures
at the Santa Lucia coffee farms consistently measure
about 75 degrees F. During the rainy season, afternoon
showers pass through the Orósi Valley. Low-hanging,
early morning clouds sometimes pass through the Valley,
then clear to a bright, sunny day. There are no flying
insects, at least the kind that bother humans.
Transportation
The coffee estates are
located one hour from the San Jose International
Airport. Paved roads in excellent condition lead to the
estates. Taxis, buses and rental cars are readily
available. The estates are walking distance from the
nearby town of Paraiso, and ocean beaches on either
coast can be reached within 3 hours by car
